Another First For The Team!
A first for us, working with thatch. After much research I made a "ridged leggett" which is used to push & pat the reads into shape.
It was surprising how much reads came off the area where the new roof will meet the old. All of it has been bundled & save for repairs to the thatch around the 1677 property.
We are so grateful to be working upon a property with so many challenges, its so interesting & expanding our skills & knowledge, especially for Ben in his first year of his apprentiship.
Our surname was originally Readman, in 1868 one of our ancestors changed it to Redman, the history of our family shows that we worked the read banks around Pilling & Knot End harvesting for thatched roofs in the local areas.
